Simple Invoice Template
Slate is a simple invoice template in the modern, minimal style: wide margins, hairline rules, and a single accent color used exactly twice — on the document title and on the amount at the bottom. Everything else is black and gray type, sized so the page reads itself in the right order.
Also available as a receipt and a quote — same design, different labels. No sign-up, no watermark, and everything is generated in your browser.
Most invoice designs signal importance with boxes and bold type. Slate does it with space. The header carries a small logo and the document title; your details and the client’s sit side by side under a hairline rule; the line items run in an open table with no grid drawn around them. Secondary information — headings, dates, the tax label — is set smaller and in gray, so the eye lands on the names and the numbers first. The amount due is the largest figure on the page and the only other place the accent color appears, which turns out to be emphasis enough.
Use it when the document should match a plain, contemporary brand: consultants, developers, studios, anyone whose own website is mostly white space already. The accent color is customizable, so the two colored elements can be made to match your palette, and the logo stays deliberately small. The honest limit of a modern invoice template this quiet is that it has nowhere to hide — it rewards short, well-written line descriptions and a sensible document number. And if your client’s accounts office expects a heavily ruled, boxed layout, the classic template will feel more familiar to them than this one.
The same design works in all three modes. As an invoice, the bottom line reads “Balance due”; switch to receipt mode and it becomes “Amount paid”, with the date of payment and how it was paid; in quote mode it reads “Quote total” with a validity date. The generator fills the template in your browser and produces the PDF free, with no sign-up and no watermark — the page you preview is exactly the page your client receives.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the accent color?
Yes. Slate honors the accent color you pick in the generator. It is applied to the document title and the bottom-line amount, and nowhere else — the rest of the page stays black and gray.
Does a simple template mean fields are missing?
No. The template carries everything the standard layout does: your details and the client’s, the document number, both dates, line items with quantity and unit price, discount, tax, shipping and the totals. It only draws them more quietly.
Can I use this template for a receipt or a quote?
Yes. Choose the document type in the generator and the labels change with it: a receipt shows “Amount paid” and the date it was paid, and a quote shows “Quote total” and how long the quote is valid.
Will it print correctly in black and white?
Yes. The accent appears only on the title and the final amount, so on a grayscale printer those two elements render as dark gray and the layout loses nothing.
